It's a mag pickup, it does not reproduce your acoustic tone. The Lawrence A-345 is easily installed and sounds quite good. It's a dual pickup (magnetic +mic) but both sides can't be adjusted. It let small marks on the top of the guitar.
#Seymore duncan woody single coil vs humbucker install#
The LR Baggs M1A didn't do it for me, it was boxy, honky sounding, sensitive to larsen, impossible to install on the fly. The bad is it will never really sound acoustic. The good thing with mag pups is that you can really play in loud environment without larsen. Oh, and P Thought, I've also read good things about the K&K Pure Mini system, but I'm considering using one sound hole pup for two acoustics, so I'm not looking to have something permanently installed, at least not yet. I've read nothing but good about them on the TDPRI, including your comments in this and other threads, aunchaki. I might also just bite the bullet and go with the LRB M1 passive. They have a Fishman Neo D humbucker soundhole pup in stock here locally. If it's still on back order, I'm tempted to see if I can cancel the order and just upgrade. Or maybe I'll double check in the morning about the status of my order. I was hoping for an ok quality so I could save a few bucks, but now I guess I'll see for myself. I was a little concerned about these things, but again, it's hard to really tell for sure with YouTube vids. aunchaki, I also heard noticeable volume variation in those YT vids. I did clarify with the sales clerk that I could return it/trade up if it didn't suit my needs, so there is that.Ĭhiogtr4x, in one of the videos I mentioned earlier, on the treble strings it sounded quite like an electric, less so on the mid and bass (wound) strings. Now I'm getting email notification that it is out of stock. They didn't have it in stock, so I ordered it. Yesterday evening before the GC closed, my wife and I got out to do some errands, and I had her drop me off at the GC while she went to the grocery store.Īnd while I was there, in the moment I just went on ahead and pulled the trigger on a SD Woody HC. Looking back over this thread, I see now that I was impatient, and didn't wait very long for incoming posts. I ordered a Woody HC from my local GC this weekend. He didn't say which model he had, but I've looked 'em up online and the A245C is in the same price as the SD Woody, but there are no reviews out there. Does anyone here have any experience with the Woody HC? If so, would you recommend it?Īlso someone in one of the other threads mentioned that his Bill Lawrence sound hole pup is a close second (in his opinion) to the M1. I've heard them in a few You Tube vids, but it's kind of hard to tell from that. So, I'm looking at a Seymour Duncan Woody HC (humbucker sound hole pup) for $50. It's not like we just can't afford for me to buy an M1, but it would be better right now if I could save some money. So if I need to spend a C note or more to get the sound I want, I'll bite the bullet and do it.īut we just had an unexpected expense (replacing a refrigerator), and so we're a thousand bucks poorer. Now of course I want to reproduce the acoustic qualities of my Hohner as best as I can, and I was willing to spring for an acoustic/electric guitar in the first place. My Breedlove acoustic/electric will be my main acoustic for live in standard tuning the sound hole pup will be for this Hohner, used for just a few songs each night in open tunings. This baby is all solid woods (cedar top, Indian Rosewood back & sides, striped ebony neck & bridge, maple bindings), a real cannon, great projection for strumming, great string-to-string articulation for flatpicking and fingerstyle. But when they offered me this guitar for $300, I couldn't pass it up. I wanted to get a DR550CE model (cutaway w/ electronics), but they were all out. Baggs M1 (passive), but I'm hoping that a Seymour Duncan Woody HC or a Bill Lawrence will work for what I need. So, I'll start a thread of my own, asking my own specific questions.īudget: $130 (+ or -) at the most, but I'm hoping to get by with a lot less. I've posted in two of them, but those threads seem to no longer be getting any responses. Several threads about soundhole pickups were started this month.
